Book Review: Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi

Title:  Destroy Me (Shatter Me 1.5)
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Publisher:  Harper
Pages: 103 ebook
Age: Young Adult

Blurb from Goodreads:

Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .

Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.

First Line: “I've been shot.”

My thoughts:
The writing in Shatter Me truly blew me away. I thought it was like reading poetry! So, I was definitely excited to read this novella from Warren's perspective. Warren is supposed to be the villain in the story but you really grow to like him and understand the way he is. In this novella we learn a little about his upbringing and we meet his father.

Definitely read Shatter Me if you haven't done so already. Destroy Me is a great addition to this series and allows you to know more about Warren. Of course, I'll be reading Unravel Me soon and look forward to reading more of Warren, Adam, and Juliette's story.

Overall: Thrilling read!

Waiting on Wednesday #26

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The Distance Between Us
By: Kasie West
July 2, 2013

Overview

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

- I really liked Pivot Point and look forward to reading more from this author.

Book Review: Touch & Go by Lisa Gardner

Title: Touch & Go
Author: Lisa Gardner
Publisher:  Dutton Adult
Pages: 400 pages
Age: Adult

Blurb from Goodreads:

This is my family:  Vanished without a trace

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life that looks good in the pages of a glossy magazine. A beautiful fifteen-year old daughter, Ashlyn. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s elite Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by friends and family.  A perfect life.

This is what I know:  Pain has a flavor

When investigator Tessa Leoni arrives at the crime scene in the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and Taser confetti in the foyer.  The family appears to have been abducted, with only a pile of their most personal possessions remaining behind.  No witnesses, no ransom demands, no motive.  Just an entire family, vanished without a trace.

This is what I fear:  The worst is yet to come

Tessa knows better than anyone that even the most perfect façades can hide the darkest secrets.  Now she must race against the clock to uncover the Denbes’ innermost dealings, a complex tangle of friendships and betrayal, big business and small sacrifices.  Who would want to kidnap such a perfect little family?  And how far would such a person be willing to go?

This is the truth:  Love, safety, family
it is all touch and go.

First Line: “Here is Something I Learned when I was eleven years old: Pain has a flavor.”

Favorite Quotes:
“It’s so much easier to fall in love, and so much more complicated to fall out of it.”

My thoughts:
This is the second book that I've read from Lisa Gardner and I really liked this story. I am a huge mystery lover when it comes to books. So, truly all of Lisa’s books really appeal to me. I love psychological thriller books.
Gardner does a really great job of setting the scene with great realistic details. Reading this book is like watching a movie in my head and I can truly visualize everything that is happening in the story. I liked how the story shifted points of view and how we got to see from the perspectives of Tessa and Libby. I was really interested in the family aspects of this book and how things aren't truly what the seem. I found the secrets to be a interesting part of the story and kept me wanting to know more.
I must say that this book has a lot of twists and turns, as expected. I didn't see a lot of the twists coming, this book had me on the edge of my seat and if you like mystery or thriller novels. I’d say give this book a try!

Overall: Thrilling read!

And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

First Line: When we got the letter in the post, my mother was excited.

Favorite Quotes:
“In my experience, true love is usually the most inconvenient kind.”

My thoughts:
I loved The Elite just as much as I loved The Selection. I think this book had a lot more action in the story and was a great addition to this series! I read this book in one day, which is something I never usually do! I generally like to spend a lot of time in a book. This book just really confirms my love of Kiera Cass's writing style. I completely love it and it's so easy to read and follow along with. I was just so drawn into the world she created. I really enjoyed the characters even though they all seems to have some flaws with them.

The only frustration that I had with this book was America's unsureness at times. She just didn't know what to do. In my mind, I was screaming to her, just decide which one you want!! I can't wait to see where this love triangle goes! I seriously can't wait to read The One!

Overall: Loved, Loved, Loved it!
